You can change your Steam profile in the following ways:

Run Steam → Select Profile → Click 'Edit Profile' → Input the changes → Save 

Or else, you can also set your profile page to the 'Private' status.

However, if your profile is private, people will not be able to see your profile information and you will not be able to add friends.
